What We Do

SBCC Emergency Services primary goal is to ensure the protection of life and campus property, and to maintain Campus Emergency Procedures and Emergency Operations Plan. We do this by providing information, coordinate resources, arrange training and leadership on how to prepare for a wide variety of emergencies on or near the Main, Wake, Schott and Cosmetology campuses. The team also works on mitigation strategies and the recovery from emergencies that may arise.

In the event of a major disaster, the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) may be activated accordingly. Depending on the situation, the EOC administers the campuswide emergency notification system (methods listed below). The EOC provides the coordination, communication and the integration of local state and federal assets necessary to save lives, protect property and public health.

The majority of the emergencies that take place on campus are medical which the Safety/Security department coordinates with Fire and Ambulance.  Santa Barbara Police will respond to all violent incidents including an active shooter on campus. Call 911 first if you witness Armed Intruder on campus, provide as much detail as possible as to the location of what you see.  If 911 is called regarding a medical, dangerous or violent emergency it is important to call Campus Security Emergency, ext 2400 from a campus phone or (805) 730-4200.  Campus Security will help direct emergency responders to the location of the incident. If you witness any suspicious activity or have any safety concerns while on campus contact Security immediately dial ext 2400 from a campus phone or call (805) 730-4200.

Visit our Emergency Procedures and Classroom Preparedness pages for more information on what to do in an emergency. Please review the Security Website for security on campus and information regarding crime prevention, procedures and other reporting information
